What is a Google review link?
A Google review link is a web address that opens the review form for your Business Profile, so a customer can rate and review you in one tap. Without it, the customer has to search for your company, find the right listing and look for the review button, and many give up on the way.
How do I get my Google review link?
There are two ways to get it: copy it from your Business Profile, or build it from your Place ID. Both give a link to your review form.
| Method | Steps | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| From your Business Profile | Search your business name on Google while signed in to the account that manages it, open the "Ask for reviews" option, and copy the short link. | Most companies |
| From your Place ID (this tool) | Find your Place ID, paste it above, and the tool builds the full link and the messages. | Service area businesses that hide their address, agencies managing several clients, and anyone who wants the message templates |
How do I find my Google Place ID?
Your Place ID is a text code that identifies your business on Google Maps, and it usually starts with "ChIJ". Google provides a free Place ID Finder for it.
- Open Google's Place ID Finder.
- Type your business name in the search box and pick your listing from the suggestions.
- Copy the Place ID shown next to the listing name.
- Paste it into the tool above and press the button.
Service area businesses that hide their address may not appear in the finder. If that is you, use the Business Profile method from the table above.
How do I test my review link?
Open the link on your phone while signed in to a personal Google account and check that the review form shows your company name. Test it before you send it to any customer. If the form shows a different business or an error, the Place ID is wrong, so copy it again from the finder.
How should I send the review link to customers?
Send the link in the channel the customer already uses with you, as soon after the job as possible. Text messages are the simplest for field service because the customer can tap and finish on the same phone.
| Channel | When to use it | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Text message | Same day the job finishes | Use the customer's first name and the technician's name |
| With the invoice, or a follow-up two to three days later | Put the link on its own line so it is easy to tap | |
| Invoice or receipt | Every job | Add the code from our QR code generator |
| Door hanger or card | Left on site after a visit | Print the QR code, not the long link |
| Email signature | All staff | One short line with the link |
What should my review request say?
A good review request is short, personal and asks for an honest review. The five templates below follow that pattern, and the tool above fills in your company name and link for the first and third. Replace the bracketed names before sending.
1. Text message
Hi [Customer name], thanks for choosing [Company]. If [Technician name] took good care of you, would you leave us a quick Google review? It takes about a minute: [link]
2. Follow-up text (send once, three days later)
Hi [Customer name], a quick reminder from [Company]. An honest review helps other homeowners decide who to call. Here is the link if you have a minute: [link]
3. Email
Subject: How did we do? Hi [Customer name], thank you for choosing [Company]. We would value your honest feedback, and a short Google review helps other homeowners find a company they can trust. Leave a review here: [link]
4. Invoice line
Thank you for your business. Tell us how we did: scan the code or visit [link].
5. Door hanger or leave-behind card
Thanks for choosing [Company]. Scan the code to share your experience on Google. Your honest feedback helps our team and your neighbors.
What does Google allow when asking for reviews?
Google allows you to ask customers for reviews and share your review link, and it bans several practices. Its policy bans offering discounts, payments or free goods in exchange for reviews. It bans selectively asking only happy customers, called review gating, and discouraging negative reviews. It also bans conflicts of interest, such as reviews written by employees. Ask every customer in the same way.
How should I reply to reviews?
Reply to every review politely and briefly. Google's guidance is to keep replies professional and short, say thank you, and avoid offers or deals in replies. For a negative review, state the facts calmly, offer to continue offline, and do not argue in public.
Do reviews help my local rankings?
Google says more reviews and positive ratings can improve your local ranking, and that local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Reviews support prominence but work together with your categories, services and website pages. Our guide to local SEO for contractors covers the full picture, and the review calculator shows how many reviews a target rating needs.
Why is my review link not working?
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Form shows another business | Wrong Place ID | Search again in the Place ID Finder and copy the ID for the right listing |
| Customer cannot see the form | Not signed in to Google | Ask them to sign in, then tap the link again |
| Error page | Extra space or missing character in the ID | Paste the ID again with no spaces |
| Review not showing after posting | Google may hold or filter reviews | Check again later. Google does not publish a fixed timeframe |
Does each location need its own review link?
Yes. Every Business Profile has its own Place ID and review link. If you run several locations, create one link per location so reviews reach the right profile.
Frequently asked questions
Is the review link generator free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser.
Is my Place ID stored?
No. Your Place ID and company name stay in your browser and are not sent to us.
Can I send the same link to every customer?
Yes. The link points to your profile, not to a person, so it is the same for every customer.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Google's policy prohibits reviews offered in exchange for incentives, and violations can lead to review removal or action against your profile.
